Hi, I\u2019m Nicola, the tutor behind Hawthorn Learning.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m a qualified primary teacher with over 10 years\u2019 experience teaching in English primary schools, working mainly across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Over the years, I\u2019ve supported children with a wide range of needs, abilities and personalities, and one thing has always stood out to me: children learn best when they feel confident, calm and understood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That belief is at the heart of everything I do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My approach focuses on building confidence first. Many of the children I work with feel anxious about learning, worried about getting things wrong, or have lost belief in their own ability. Before introducing challenge, I take time to help children feel safe to try, to ask questions and to make mistakes without fear. From there, learning becomes far more effective and enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sessions are always personalised. I adapt each lesson around the child in front of me, their interests, their pace and their emotional needs. This is particularly important for children who find traditional classroom environments overwhelming, including home-educated learners and children who need a gentler, more flexible approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside my teaching experience, I have a strong knowledge of the English national curriculum, including phonics, maths mastery and supporting children to achieve greater depth. However, I don\u2019t believe progress should come at the expense of confidence or wellbeing. My aim is not just to help children improve academically, but to help them feel more positive about learning as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I now work as a self-employed tutor, supporting families in Sheffield and beyond. I\u2019m incredibly proud that my work has recently been recognised, and I\u2019ve been shortlisted as a finalist for two business awards for my tutoring practice. This recognition reflects my commitment to providing thoughtful, child-centred support that genuinely makes a difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
